Colorful Agates from around the world!

  • Agates are sliced in half on a lapidary rock saw, and face polished to bring out the patterns and colors in the agate. Colors and banding are varied depending onthe host rock and chemistry when the agate was formed. Colors include red, white, black, shades of brown, and rarely, yellow, green, blue and purple! There are many patterns that can be found - such as fortifications, tubes, dendrite, spherical, layers, bands and orbicular. 
  • Agates from many localities have distinctive patterns and colors that are instantly identifiable to the agate-obsessed!
  • Thundereggs look similar to geodes on the outside, but have distinctive seams in the outer shell, and usually a 5-point star pattern inside filled with solid agate. These are face polished to bring out the banding and colors.
